my little running buddy and endurance
this was the first run since fall that i took my daughter out for a run in her jogging stroller. i forgot how much more effort it takes to push an extra 40 pounds plus the weight of the stroller. not only that, but i ran nearly a quarter of a mile before i realized that i didn’t hit start again on my watch after pausing it to wait for cars to clear before we crossed the road. other than a bit of wind, it was a good run. i took it slow for obvious reasons, but we did a few small hills. depending on whether or not the rain clears up, we may hit the road again today.

emotionally invested
so, i have been training for the pittsburgh half-marathon for a while. i booked my hotel room early so that i wouldn’t have to worry about it. plus, if i couldn’t run, i had until two days before to cancel my room without a penalty. i hesitated on registering for a few reasons (ie. injury worries, saving money up, etc.). registration fees for me, at least right now since i am the only bread winner until my husband graduates, are hard earned. i save up for all of my running gear and races while trying not to take away from providing for my husband and daughter. well, i waited too long to register and logged on last week to do so and discovered they put a cap on it because of the “overwhelming response.” i don’t cry over much. i cried last september when i sprained my ankle a week before the ing distance run and thought i wasn’t going to be able to run it, not because my ankle hurt. i cried last week about not being able to run in pittsburgh. i know it sounds stupid, petty and silly, and yes, i may be a big baby about it, but it was a goal of mine. i know there are other races and i know now to register early next year. but right now, i feel as if i am mourning something. the saner part of me keeps saying it is silly, but the part of me who finds passion in running is sad. i am emotionally invested in running, for whatever reason. i feel empty if i have to go a few days without it. it makes me feel good, it makes me a better wife and mother. it gives me a sense of pride and accomplishment. i guess i don’t need an official race to feel that, but it helps to have a goal and then to accomplish it. oh well. there are other races and there is always next year.

got the hubby going
i didn’t run much on this one because i was helping my hubby run. he wants to lose weight and i offered to help him. he has multiple sclerosis and i have been on his case for years to start exercising … not so much for the weightloss benefits, but for the overall health benefits. so we took it slow. a minute at a time around the local park until he got to a half mile. then i ran a lap. i thought he did well for the first time running in years. hopefully i can keep encouraging and not pushing like i so often do.
